The Genesis GV90 electric SUV features a pop-up 24.6-inch OLED cinematic display, turning the vehicle into a personal luxury movie theater. The system is paired with a 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen Premier 3D Sound System with Dolby Atmos.

Genesis unveiled the GV90 at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco on August 19. The vehicle includes B-pillarless coach doors and swiveling seats, but the extendable screen is a key highlight.

Display and Infotainment System

The GV90 is the first Hyundai Motor Group vehicle with this new extendable display and the first Genesis model equipped with the Pleos Connect infotainment system. Hyundai developed an exclusive version of Pleos Connect for this flagship SUV.

The screen offers different experiences based on whether the vehicle is driving or parked. During driving, the infotainment screen measures 23.6 inches. When parked, a button push expands it to 24.6 inches for use as a cinematic display.

Inho Yoon, responsible for designing the GV90's Pleos Connect system, said the decision reflects how modern automobiles are used for more than transportation. Yoon explained that Genesis aimed to provide a highly immersive, movie theater-like experience.

When parked with the screen extended, the display switches to Media Home mode. This allows access to Netflix, live TV, music streaming, and other third-party apps.

User Experience and Controls

While driving, the new Pleos Connect infotainment system was designed to feel similar to a smartphone's user experience. Lee Min-ah, a Senior Researcher on the Infotainment UX Development Team, stated she devoted considerable effort to designing the display's app screen policies for seamless simultaneous use of navigation and other apps.

The GV90's version of Pleos Connect differs from other Hyundai vehicles. It features a unique menu bar on each side of the screen with individual seat control buttons. The driver's side handles navigation, vehicle functions, and climate control, while the passenger side displays apps and media.

The system also includes Gleo AI, Hyundai's in-car AI companion. It can control vehicle functions or search for information, such as finding nearby restaurants or web news.

Despite the large digital screens, Genesis included several physical buttons below the infotainment display for climate control and media.

Vehicle Specifications and Variants

The Genesis GV90 will be available in two variants: the GV90 Neolun with coach doors and a standard GV90 with traditional swing doors. It is powered by a 123.5 kWh battery, which Genesis says is the largest among Hyundai Motor's electric vehicles. The expected range for the seven-seater version is around 310 miles, or 500 kilometers.

The GV90's dimensions make it larger than the Hyundai IONIQ 9 and Kia EV9. The vehicle also features a custom 25-inch Head-Up Display that projects speed, navigation directions, and other driver information onto the windshield.
