The Ionna charging network has taken the top spot in the 2026 JD Power Public Charging Satisfaction Ranking for DC fast-charging. In its debut year on the chart, Ionna scored 807 points out of a possible 1,000, ending the Tesla Boost network's five-year dominance of the study.

Ionna's leadership was surprised by the strong customer feedback. The network, which currently has over 1,500 stalls, now faces the challenge of maintaining its high satisfaction score while expanding to a planned 30,000 stalls by the end of 2030.

Key Results from the 2026 Study

The JD Power study reveals a competitive field where newer networks are scoring highly with electric vehicle drivers. The results for the top-performing DC fast-charging networks are shown below.

Tom Moloughney of State Of Charge attended the award ceremony and spoke with Ionna CEO Seth Cutler and CFO Derek Rush. Brent Gruber of JD Power was also present.

Mercedes-Benz's Dual Strategy

Mercedes-Benz secured a strong second-place finish with its own branded charging network. Fabian Prinz of Mercedes-Benz noted in an interview that the company plans to continue expanding its own network. Mercedes-Benz is also one of the eight founding automakers behind the Ionna consortium, which includes BMW Group, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Stellantis, and Toyota.

This dual approach gives the German automaker a significant stake in the evolving charging infrastructure landscape.

Industry Evolution and Tesla's Role

The overall DC fast-charging infrastructure is improving rapidly. Sites are growing larger, chargers are becoming more reliable, power outputs are increasing, and more amenities are available. JD Power indicates that newer networks like Ionna, Mercedes-Benz, and Rivian are perceived as more satisfying by users, a positive sign for the future.

Tesla Boost remains an industry benchmark with a solid satisfaction score and the highest number of stalls in operation. Its score of 701 points reflects a stable performance, even as newer competitors emerge.
