Rivian Adds Forest Green and Borealis Purple to R2
Rivian has expanded color options for its R2 electric SUV, adding Forest Green and a lighter Coastal Cloud interior.
Rivian has unlocked two new exterior colors and a lighter interior option for its upcoming R2 mid-size electric SUV. The Forest Green and Borealis Purple shades are now available to configure online, according to the company.
Forest Green is priced at $1,500 as an optional extra. Borealis Purple costs $2,000. The new Coastal Cloud Signature interior, featuring a lighter color palette, is a $1,000 option. These join previously available colors like Half Moon Grey, Midnight Black, Catalina Cove Blue, and Launch Green. Glacier White costs $1,000, while Esker Silver remains the standard, no-cost color.
Available Colors and Trims
The availability of these new options varies by vehicle trim. Forest Green can be selected for the Performance, Premium, and Standard Long Range versions of the R2. Borealis Purple, however, is exclusively offered on the top-tier Performance model. Rivian notes that its most affordable EV is currently only orderable as a Performance version with the Launch Package, but this will change later in the year.
In a blog post, Rivian described the inspiration behind Forest Green. The company said it was designed to mimic the play of shadow and light found walking in a forest. Forest Green is the deep green of a canopy seen from below, with enough metallic flake in the paint to catch light the way leaves do when shifting with the wind, Rivian stated.
Interior and Material Updates
The new Coastal Cloud Signature interior offers a lighter, airier feel compared to the standard Black Crater Signature option. Despite its lighter colors, Rivian claims the interior is built for durability. It uses a second-generation Advantex material that can be wiped down after messy adventures. This white interior is only available on the Premium and Performance trim levels.
R2 Model Specifications and Pricing
Currently, only the Rivian R2 Performance Launch Edition is shipping. It starts at $59,485. This model features a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup producing 656 horsepower and an EPA-estimated range of 330 miles. The Launch Package includes the Tow Package, a special key fob, and lifetime access to Rivian's Autonomy+ advanced driver assistance system.
The mid-tier Premium trim is scheduled to become available later this year, starting at $55,485. It offers the same 330-mile range but with reduced power output of 450 horsepower. The Tow Package and Autonomy+ system are optional extras on this model. The entry-level R2 Standard Rear-Wheel Drive is slated for production next summer. It will start at $46,485 with an estimated range of 275 miles and 350 horsepower.
