Wawa, a convenience store chain, is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) charging network beyond Tesla. The company has launched self-branded EV fast chargers in partnership with Electrify America, a leading EV charging network.

Wawa's new EV charging stations will be rolled out at eight Pennsylvania stores this year. The convenience store chain will operate the stations under its own brand, while Electrify America provides the equipment, software, and network support.

The new charging stations will offer a range of charging speeds, including up to 400 kW and 350 kW. Five of the sites will feature both NACS and CCS connectors, while the other three will have CCS-only chargers.

According to Rich Makin, Wawa's senior vice president and chief fuel and development officer, the new charging stations will provide more options for customers across 14 states. Makin stated that bringing the chargers in-house gives Wawa more control over reliability, branding, and the overall experience for customers.

The new Wawa-branded EV charging stations will be located at the following sites:

Wawa's new EV charging stations do not replace its existing relationships with Tesla and IONNA fast chargers. Instead, they signal the company's desire to take a more direct role in selling electricity as EV charging becomes a bigger part of the convenience store business.

Wawa has not yet announced individual opening dates or pricing for the new charging stations.

The expansion of Wawa's EV charging network is a significant development in the growth of public charging infrastructure in the United States. As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, companies like Wawa are playing an increasingly important role in providing convenient and reliable charging options for drivers.
