Vehicles: Tesla has released a new teaser video showing the updated Roadster's front light bar

Tesla has released a new teaser for its next-generation Roadster, revealing a continuous front light bar that marks a departure from the prototype shown nearly nine years ago. The automaker confirmed it will reveal the car's final design, pricing, specifications, and production targets at an event in Waco, Texas, on October 1.

A nine-second clip posted by Tesla on September 25, 2026, shows trailer doors swinging open in the dark. A thin, blade-like white LED light bar glows across what appears to be the vehicle's nose. This continuous strip is the most concrete design detail so far and suggests the production car will look noticeably different from the 2017 prototype, which used two separate curved headlamp pods. The video ends with the Roadster name and the message 'See you next week.' Tesla engineering executive Lars Moravy introduced the clip at the company's Semi event in Nevada, telling the crowd, "We can’t have a Semi event without the Roadster."

Design aligns with Tesla’s Cyber aesthetic and hints at SpaceX integration

The new front light bar brings the Roadster in line with the connected light strips seen on the Cybertruck, Cybercab, Semi, and refreshed Model Y. The teaser shows sharper, geometric creases that borrow from Tesla's 'Cyber' aesthetic. Observers also noted what looked like part of a SpaceX logo in the video, though Tesla has not addressed the sighting. The rear design includes a high-mounted aero wing and a wide taillight bar. Tesla has previously discussed an optional SpaceX Package that would use cold gas thrusters to improve acceleration and possibly allow the car to briefly leave the ground.

Tesla confirms October 1 event in Waco will unveil full Roadster specs

Invitations sent to reservation holders place the Roadster reveal in Waco, Texas, at 8:30 p.m. Eastern on October 1. The location is roughly 20 minutes from SpaceX’s McGregor rocket test site. The event will give fans and reservation holders their first comprehensive look at the finished design, delivering the three details they have been waiting on for nearly nine years. Elon Musk has emphasized the reveal will be 'unforgettable.' The Federal Aviation Administration has put a temporary flight restriction in place from September 18 through October 2, covering a 1.5 nautical mile radius from the surface up to 10,000 feet.

Reservation process reopened with significant financial commitment required

Tesla recently reopened global Roadster reservations. The process requires a $5,000 refundable card payment, followed by a $45,000 wire transfer due within 10 days. That puts buyers at $50,000 committed before Tesla has published an official price.

Original performance targets remain ambitious despite repeated delays

The original 2017 pitch set an extraordinarily high bar. Those targets have been delayed repeatedly. Tesla has since pointed to production at Gigafactory Texas no earlier than 2027.

Tesla first revealed the next-generation Roadster in November 2017 by driving it out of the back of a Semi trailer. The vehicle is expected to retain low-slung, mid-engine supercar proportions. Tesla is officially set to reveal the next-generation Roadster on October 1 in Waco, Texas.
