Amazon Deploys 50 Mercedes eActros Electric Trucks
Amazon has put 50 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric semi trucks into service in Germany. The company is installing hundreds of fast chargers to support the fleet, part of a multi-billion euro investment in European transport electrification.

Amazon has begun operating 50 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 battery-electric semi trucks in Germany. The first 26 trucks from an order of more than 200 are now on the road, with the full deployment planned before the end of 2026.
According to Andreas Marschner, VP of Sustainable Operations at Amazon, the handover marks a milestone for electrifying the company's transportation network. He stated that electric trucks enable more sustainable transport on longer routes between fulfillment centers and urban areas.
Fleet Deployment and Specifications
The eActros 600 trucks are being used on middle-mile routes to move goods between Amazon's logistics hubs and city areas. Mercedes-Benz Trucks says the vehicles have a range of 500 kilometers. Each truck is equipped with a large 621 kWh battery pack.
The electric drive axles achieve an efficiency of 1.61 kWh per mile. This performance is delivered at an average combined vehicle weight of 36 metric tons, or roughly 79,400 pounds. The source from Electrek notes these specs rival the theoretical claims of the Tesla Semi, but in real-world and winter conditions.
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Battery Capacity | 621 kWh |
| Range | 500 km |
| Efficiency | 1.61 kWh/mile |

Charging Infrastructure and Investment
To support the new electric trucks, Amazon is installing hundreds of DC fast chargers across the region. These chargers have sufficient power to recharge a truck's battery from 20% to 80% in just over one hour.
This infrastructure is part of a broader European investment. Amazon is investing more than 1 billion euros to electrify and decarbonize its transportation network across the continent. Over 400 million euros of that sum is dedicated to its operations in Germany.
An analysis by Frontier Economics, commissioned by Amazon, estimates these investments have supported over 35,000 jobs. The study also found the spending contributed up to 3 billion euros to Germany's economy.
Industry Confidence and Future Outlook
Stina Fagerman, President of Mercedes-Benz Trucks' Customer Region Europe, said Amazon's reliance on the vehicles shows confidence in the technology. She stated such partnerships are key to accelerate the transformation of the transport industry.
The deployment represents a significant step in Amazon's fleet electrification strategy, which has previously focused heavily on last-mile delivery vans. The company now aims to apply electric solutions to longer-haul freight routes within its European network. The final trucks from this order are scheduled to be in service before the close of 2026.
