BYD Yangwang to debut solid-state battery
BYD's ultra-luxury Yangwang brand will launch its first solid-state battery-powered electric sedan in 2027, a Rolls-Royce-inspired model spotted testing in

BYD's Yangwang brand is preparing to launch its first solid-state battery-powered electric vehicle, a luxury sedan set to debut in 2027. The new model, spotted testing in China with a design nearly identical to the Rolls-Royce Phantom, will be BYD's first vehicle with rear-hinged coach doors. The sedan measures about 5.5 meters in length, comparable to the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S-Class, and is expected to push the brand further into the elite segment. Yangwang is BYD's highest-end brand, offering ultra-luxury models including electric hypercars and extreme off-road SUVs. The vehicle is expected to make its official debut in October.
Technology and development
The vehicle represents the culmination of three years of careful development by Yangwang. Yangwang vehicles have previously debuted breakthrough technologies such as the quad-motor e4 platform, second-generation Blade Batteries, Flash Charging, and the Disus Intelligent Body Control System. The flagship model is expected to feature BYD's quad-motor e4 platform, delivering over 1,000 hp combined, and support 5-minute Flash Charging. One image shows the vehicle at BYD's Flash Charging station, suggesting support for megawatt fast charging. Zheng Yu, Yangwang's executive general manager, confirmed the model will feature 'unprecedented disruptive technology' without revealing specifics.
Solid-state battery plans and positioning
According to China's Autohome, the Yangwang executive-class EV sedan will be BYD's first EV to use solid-state batteries. Stella Li, BYD's executive vice president, confirmed BYD is 'in the leading position' in solid-state battery tech and its commercialization. Stella Li said BYD will 'prove it' with its first solid-state battery-equipped vehicle set to debut in 2027. BYD's battery R&D team is studying battery chemistry, manufacturing, and equipment needed for mass production. FinDreams, BYD's battery business, aims to begin producing sulfide-based all-solid-state batteries in limited batches in 2027, scaling to mass production by 2030. If the Yangwang sedan uses solid-state batteries, they will likely be offered on higher-priced variants, while standard models may use Blade LFP batteries.
Leadership and naming details
Hu Xiaoqing, Yangwang's general manager, shared images of the flagship sedan on Weibo. Internally, BYD is calling the vehicle 'HU' as the name has not been finalized. Hu Xiaoqing shared a few images of the flagship sedan on Weibo and confirmed that the car’s name has yet to be finalized. BYD has not announced prices or details, but reports estimate the Yangwang sedan will cost over 2 million yuan, or nearly $300,000. The current Yangwang U7 luxury electric sedan starts at 658,000 yuan ($98,000).
The vehicle is expected to make its official debut in October.
