Tesla reported third-quarter 2026 revenues of $28.05 billion, slightly below analyst expectations. Non-GAAP earnings per share came in at $0.48, beating the anticipated $0.45. The company's operating margin was 2.6%, meeting forecasts but down from 5.8% in the same quarter last year. Free cash flow margin also declined to 5.5% from 14.2% year-over-year. Vehicle deliveries fell by 2.1% to 486,532 units. Tesla's stock price held steady at $384.98 following the results announcement.

Operating income was $718 million, while free cash flow was a positive $1.53 billion. The average revenue per vehicle sold in the quarter was $42,258, remaining similar to the prior year. Gross margin improved to 19.6%, up from 18% in Q3 2025.

FSD Adoption and Robotaxi Progress

Full Self-Driving (Supervised) adoption reached a major milestone. The attach rate for FSD surpassed 75% of new vehicle deliveries in North America. This represents a sequential increase of nearly twenty percentage points. This software uptake supports Tesla's autonomous taxi ambitions. The Robotaxi service has now accumulated nearly two million cumulative unsupervised miles. In Austin, these vehicles operate from 6 a.m. to midnight. Tesla has begun deploying its dedicated Cybercab into the Austin Robotaxi fleet. Inside the Cybercab, Grok AI is accessible via voice command.

Tesla Semi and Energy Efficiency

Tesla has moved its electric truck into volume production. The top variant of the Tesla Semi achieves a 500-mile range at a gross combination weight of 82,000 pounds. Its efficiency is a key selling point.

The Semi uses approximately one-third of the energy consumed by a comparable diesel truck.

Strategic AI and Infrastructure Moves

Tesla continues to invest heavily in artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company plans to reach 400 megawatts of training compute for its Super Intelligence segment by the end of 2026. Construction is ongoing at the Austin Fab, with equipment commissioning planned to start in 2027. Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla and SpaceX have formed committees to explore a potential merger. When asked about the merger concept, Musk stated, "Do I think it would be a good idea? Yes."

SpaceX and Boring Company Updates

SpaceX, a key part of Musk's portfolio, reported its own strong third quarter. Revenue surged 161% year-over-year to $14.58 billion. Its Super Intelligence segment led, contributing $7.56 billion. Starship development continues with tower catches of the Super Heavy booster now successfully completed three times. Flight 14 deployed Starlink V3 satellites. The company expects Flight 15 to launch before Thanksgiving 2026, with a license covering a return to launch site and tower catch for both stages. SpaceX aims for weekly Starship flights in the first half of 2027, scaling to twice weekly or more by year's end. Musk emphasized the significance of full reusability, saying, "If we succeed, it will be the first time that an orbital launch vehicle has been fully recovered."

The Boring Company also advanced. It modified a Tesla-powered tunnel truck, the Prufrock Liner, to carry a standard 20-foot shipping container. The truck uses Tesla Model 3 batteries and drive units. In September, the company closed a $3 billion Series D funding round at a $23 billion valuation. Its mining operations in Nashville are running two machines simultaneously. Tesla will hold an investor call at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time on October 21, 2026, to discuss these developments and the company's strategic direction.
