BYD has revealed its new third-generation Tang EV, a five-seat electric SUV with a dual-motor powertrain delivering up to 690 horsepower. The vehicle uses advanced Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging technology.

The front electric motor produces 288 horsepower (215 kW) while the rear motor delivers 402 horsepower (300 kW). This dual-motor setup provides all-wheel drive. Combined output reaches 515 kW, or 690 horsepower.

Battery and charging technology

The SUV is equipped with BYD’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery 2.0, supplied by its Wuwei Fudi Battery Co. unit. It will be offered with two different battery capacities.

Battery Capacity
88.682 kWh
105.792 kWh

The key advancement is the new Flash Charging system. BYD states this technology is expected to enable a charge from 10% to 70% state of charge in just five minutes.

Interior and cabin features

The cabin is dominated by large digital displays. It features a stretched 35.4-inch integrated display and a separate 30-inch panoramic screen. Lu Tian, General Manager of BYD’s Dynasty lineup, called it a “tech-savvy flagship SUV” featuring two massive screens.

Second-row passengers get zero-gravity captain’s chairs. Lu Tian said the five-seat SUV will provide over 1,000 mm of second-row legroom. The vehicle also includes BYD’s DiSus-A intelligent body control system with dual-chamber air suspension.

Dimensions and positioning

The new Tang EV is a substantial vehicle, positioning itself as a premium five-seater. It measures 5,045 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, and 1,740 mm tall. Its wheelbase is 2,950 mm, which is 145 mm longer than the wheelbase of its predecessor.

Unlike the current Tang EV, which offers five- and six-seat versions, this new generation will be offered only with five seats. It is designed to complement BYD's flagship electric SUV lineup, slotting below the larger Da Tang model as a more affordable alternative.

Range, launch and market context

The vehicle offers varying ranges depending on its configuration, as measured under China's CLTC cycle. BYD is expected to launch the third-generation Tang by the end of 2026.

CLTC Range
730 km
830 km
850 km

It debuted at the Chengdu Auto Show in August after appearing in a filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The model includes BYD’s God’s Eye B advanced driving assistance system. For context, BYD's larger full-size Great Tang model starts at 239,900 yuan and saw over 10,000 units sold in its first three months on the market.

It will be available in two interior color schemes: Dune Beige and Amber Brown.
