Ford has opened a preorder invite list for the Fathom electric pickup ahead of its expected 2027 launch. Public pre-orders will open in early 2027, with deliveries expected to begin late in the same year.

The Fathom will use a 400-volt electrical architecture with a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery. It will come standard with a single rear-mounted electric motor. An optional dual-motor all-wheel drive configuration will also be offered.

Interior tech and standard features outlined for the compact electric truck

The Fathom will include a large touchscreen supporting Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Ford’s built-in navigation powered by Apple Maps. Bi-directional charging, a digital key, and a front trunk are promised as standard features.

Every Fathom will include hardware for BlueCruise hands-free driver assistance. This system will require extra activation and is expected to be subscription-based. The truck will also feature bidirectional power capability to send power to plug-in electronics. A digital key and Ford app remote control come standard.

Production details reveal Ford’s investment in Kentucky EV manufacturing

Assembly of the Fathom will occur at the Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky. This facility previously built the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair. It has undergone a $2 billion upgrade to build electric vehicles.

The plant uses the Ford Universal EV Production System. This system employs three parallel assembly lines that join sections at the end.

Fathom aims to fill a gap in the compact electric truck market with competitive price

The Fathom is positioned as an affordable EV pickup. "Ford said the Fathom will start at $29,945, including a $1,595 destination charge." The truck is sized roughly the same as the compact Ford Maverick on the outside.

Ford states the four-door Fathom will have more passenger room than a Toyota RAV4, though no measurements or interior photos have been released. The model enters a segment with few compact electric trucks currently available, as most compact trucks on the market are gas-powered. The Fathom is Ford’s chance to prove its EV capability amid challenges with other electric models in the U.S.

The Fathom is expected to be fully revealed by the end of this year.
