Incentives: Kia has released teaser images for its larger PV7 electric van, set to premiere on September 14

Kia will unveil its larger PV7 electric van on September 14 at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover. This marks the second dedicated model in Kia's Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) lineup, built on the E-GMP.S electric architecture.

The PV7 is designed as a bigger sibling to the PV5, moving Kia further into the light commercial vehicle market. The manufacturer states it is developing the van for both commercial and lifestyle applications. Teaser images and a video have been released ahead of its world premiere.

A Hint at Camper Variants

Kia's teaser campaign strongly suggests a factory-built camper version is planned. The released images show parts of the PV7 in a campsite setting. This aligns with earlier comments from Kia's European PBV director, who indicated the PV7 could eventually spawn "light camper" variants.

The director's previous statements, cited by the source, mentioned these camper versions would join expected cargo and passenger models. The campsite imagery appears to confirm this development intention for the larger van.

Size and Design Details

Final production dimensions for the PV7 have not been confirmed. However, the source provides figures for the 2024 PV7 concept vehicle, which offer a comparison to the smaller PV5.

ModelLength (meters)Length (inches)
PV7 Concept5.27 m207.5 in
PV5 (varies by style)4.695 - 4.890 mN/A

The concept was 38 to 57.5 centimeters longer than the PV5, a range equating to approximately 15 to 23 inches. Despite this increased size, the PV7 retains the family's distinctive one-box design.

It features high-mounted lighting, a contrasting black hood and pillar trim, and protective cladding seen on the PV5. The PV7 appears more planted, with what look like wider flared fenders. Its vertical taillights have additional plastic elements and a different lighting signature, giving it a distinct rear appearance.

Demonstrating Modular Flexibility

At the IAA Transportation event, Kia plans to present the flexibility of its modular electric platform beyond just the PV7. The display will include multiple variants of the smaller PV5 model to illustrate the range of possible conversions.

The company will show PV5 Cargo models in L1/H1 and L2/H2 configurations. Also on display will be a chassis cab, a seven-seat passenger version, a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, and a food truck conversion. This exhibition is intended to demonstrate the platform's capability to support numerous work and lifestyle applications.

Kia says it plans to add more PV7 variants in the future. The vehicle's development highlights the automaker's strategy to rapidly expand its dedicated electric van family from the initial PV5 model.
